Suljanggo - Beat of the Rain

Lead Janggoo, Instructor

2013 FoodFest

Samulnori (사물놀이) - "Four instrument Percussion." Each instrument represents the elements of the rain. Originated in South Korea as a song for rainfall and a successful harvest. Also referred to as "poongmul (풍물)."

The beauty of samulnori comes from the strong individual sounds coming together and blending as a wonderful harmony. Thus,

a true "samulnori" player must master values of harmony, cooperation, and humbleness, all core essentials of the Korean culture. Through a samlunori performance, I have tried to deliver these messages as a way of expressing my values and embodiment of my Korean heritage.

The following videos show some of the performances I directed and participated in.

Please enjoy and love Samulnori!
